What really stuck with me is a statement from Maja Göpel about critical infrastructure. There is this constant narrative being spread that we have to protect our critical infrastructure because otherwise it will "hurt the economy".
But you can't hurt the economy, because it is not an organism, not a living being, and therefore has absolutely no feelings.
Secondly, this broad concept of "our economy" doesn't even exist. There are large corporations. There is maybe the mid-sized sector, but a growing part of the population has absolutely no access to wealth. And because of that, they have no access to the natural resources of our planet. That is why we need a completely new economic system: the Economy for the Common Good.
And Maja Göpel says—countering this widespread narrative of critical infrastructure—that our truly most critical and valuable infrastructure are actually our ecosystems. But those are exactly what we completely block out, ignore, and systematically destroy.
