Thought #166: When Customers Have to Train Staff

To streamline fueling, I set up an account with DKV’s Instant Fuel app for mobile payments at the pump. However, my experiences at gas stations like Aral and Hoyer in the Leipzig area revealed a severe service breakdown. When the digital connection fails and you ask inside, station employees routinely have no idea the app even exists and show little interest in resolving the issue. Instead of benefiting from a seamless digital workflow, the customer ends up having to educate the staff. This recurring situation highlights broader structural flaws in Germany: an underperforming education system, poor working conditions, and a lack of basic job training in everyday service industries.
