Large corporate education providers exploit power imbalances along the food chain: precarious freelancers are pushed into pseudo-self-employment to satisfy corporate profit motives. But this system only holds together because "divide and conquer" works so seamlessly. Instead of forming alliances, building networks, and sharing resources, freelancers often view one another as direct competitors. As long as workers fight each other over scarce assignments, they passively sustain the very structures that exploit them.
