Another deeply frustrating aspect of modern work is the absurd culture of presenteeism—just sitting out the clock. I see this all the time in state retraining programs and corporate setups: the only metric bureaucrats care about is checking off attendance sheets. Results don't matter; physical presence is all that counts.
It proves we're dealing with a system that fundamentally distrusts its citizens. There is zero faith in mature, capable adults. Instead, people waste weeks creating slide decks or writing reports that nobody will ever lay eyes on. It's pure resource waste designed to assert control. At its core, that’s top-down tyranny: enforcing arbitrary rules without ever questioning their purpose.
