To me, language has never been just a communication tool—it’s a key to understanding the world. At 15, I deliberately sought out Russian speakers, connecting with members of the Soviet armed forces stationed nearby. Later, I fell in love with Irina from Novosibirsk, followed by a years-long relationship with Natalia from Kyiv. Over time, I unlocked the English-speaking world as well. Today, I operate fluently across three languages at a C1 level.
In an era marked by aggressive wars and intense political polarization, I use these language skills every day working with refugees. Languages dismantle manufactured enemy narratives and "us vs. them" mindsets, creating space for real, human-to-human connection—completely detached from state propaganda templates.
