Our society is increasingly driven by pre-packaged narratives. Yuval Noah Harari famously points out that humanity only managed to build vast civilizations because we believe in shared fictions. But the truth is almost always far more complex than a convenient story. It isn't a static condition; it’s an ongoing process of weighing evidence, doubting assumptions, and constantly questioning.
That process inherently creates discomfort—and because people naturally crave safety and ease, they often retreat into oversimplified storylines. But anyone genuinely daring to pursue the truth must be willing to embrace doubt, do the research, and ask uncomfortable questions. Critical thinking won't make you popular; it creates friction. But I refuse to comfortably go along with the crowd and switch my brain off.
