In childhood, we quickly learn to suppress aspects of ourselves because society demands conformity and punishes deviation. The rigid school system—built on centuries-old methods of discipline and evaluation—inflicts unaddressed trauma on many children. Instead of teaching children how to process these pressures, adults often tell them that "this is just how life is". As a result, we unlearn the essential habit of exploring our own minds.
