Trade unions historically played a key role in maintaining social peace and labor security in Germany. But that era has run its course. As institutions of the old economic model, they have grown bloated, bureaucratic, and deeply entrenched in rigid hierarchies. Their own affiliated educational and administrative bodies frequently operate on the very same patriarchal and exploitative logics they were meant to counter. Built for the age of assembly lines and heavy industry, traditional unions become fundamentally obsolete as we transition toward sociocratic, self-determined ways of organizing work.
