During the pandemic, Google reacted反应 swiftly by providing Google Meet—a streamlined tool for video conferencing with minimal hardware demands and frictionless access. Interestingly, corporations and public authorities completely ignored Google Meet, largely because they are locked in by Microsoft and have zero interest in exploring modern alternatives. As a result, users were forced to rely on clunky Microsoft tools, which were essentially late, inferior copies of Google’s original product.
Google pioneered the web-first model, while Microsoft merely imitated it years down the line. We saw the exact same pattern with Office 365, which was just a reactive copy of Google Drive and Google Apps. When rigid organizations remain trapped in legacy software monopolies, lightweight and accessible web solutions are sidelined—to the detriment of all users.
