In its current iteration, our political order generates less freedom, not more. Most people remain trapped in wage dependency, even as traditional jobs are systematically eroded by technological advancement.
This reveals a profound systemic blind spot—even for the political left. While the Left puts forward valuable ideas, it remains constrained by repeating the tired mantra of "saving and creating jobs." This is a fundamental delusion. Under capitalist logic, no firm exists to preserve employment; every business is structurally mandated to maximize returns on invested capital. That return is not achieved by retaining staff, but by driving efficiency and cutting labor costs through AI, software, and automation.
As long as political actors cling to the myth of guaranteed full employment, they cannot offer viable answers for the future. When access to societal resources depends strictly on wage labor that technology is rendering obsolete, the social contract breaks down. We urgently need a transformation that decouples human dignity and resource distribution from outdated models of employment.
